A Database of Databases

Gone are the days of thumbing each issue of a likely magazine in search of the article you need.  Just like the telephone book is really a database of telephone numbers, and the card catalog is a database of the books and other media in your library media center, there is a database for searching for magazine articles.  In fact, there’s a database for searching Maine newspapers, and one for health information, and another for information about animals, and, well, there are a lot more!

In Maine, we have a web site maintained by the State Library that is a database of databases!  It’s called MARVEL!, and it’s easy to find.  Just type in the logical sequence, the wed address you’d guess for MARVEL at the State of Maine:
                    www.maine.gov/marvel

or, on your laptop here at LJHS, open a web browser, then look at the bottom right cornor of your screen.  You should see what looks like a tiny spring with an @ on it.  Click there for a direct link to MARVEL!

Or, go the school’s home page and access the site from the Library Media Center blog, or even from the web page of a Team (try the Blue Team’s home page - it’s there!).

Or just click here:

Once you’re at MARVEL!, try the database of your choice.  I’d recommend MAS Ultra - School Edition for finding that magazine article!
